WESTCHESTER, NY DECK DESIGN + CONSTRUCTION

Designed, planned, and built from the ground up. We also handle conversions, upgrades, new railings, and updated stairs — pressure-treated wood or modern composite, your choice.

Already have a deck? We handle conversions and upgrades too — fresh railings, rebuilt stairs, and full refreshes that bring tired structures back to life. Whether you want the warmth and character of pressure-treated wood or the low-maintenance durability of modern composite, the choice is yours, and we’ll help you make the right one.

FROM CLEANING DECKS TO BUILDING THEM

For nearly two decades, Westchester homeowners have called Westchester Wash and Seal to clean, stain, and seal their decks. Over the years, the question we heard most often wasn’t about staining — it was, “Can you just build me a new one?”

So we did something about it. Westchester Decking is our sister company, and it’s the side of the business that handles the building side of your outdoor living space: design, demolition, construction, conversion, and the kind of structural upgrades that turn an aging deck into a place you actually want to spend time.

How it works: One call to Westchester Wash and Seal at (914) 290-3580 connects you to the right team for the job. If your existing deck needs cleaning and sealing, that’s us. If it needs a full rebuild, a conversion to composite, or you want to design something new from scratch, we hand you off to the Westchester Decking team — same family, same standards, same commitment to doing the job right the first time.

Deck Construction In Westchester County NY

PRESSURE-TREATED WOOD OR MODERN COMPOSITE?

Every new deck starts with a material choice, and both options have a real place in Westchester homes. Here’s how we talk through it with our clients.

Pressure-Treated Wood

Pressure-Treated Wood — The Traditional Choice

The classic deck material — solid, warm, and a lower upfront price. Pressure-treated lumber is built to resist rot, insects, and Westchester’s freeze-thaw cycles. With proper staining and sealing every two to three years, a pressure-treated deck can serve you for 15 to 20 years or more.

  • Lower upfront cost
  • Natural wood look and feel
  • Requires periodic cleaning, staining, and sealing
  • Easy to repair and modify down the road
Modern Composite Decking

Modern Composite Decking — Low Maintenance

Composite boards — brands like Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, and Fiberon — are engineered from wood fibers and recycled plastics. They won’t splinter, warp, rot, or need staining. Higher upfront cost, but the maintenance savings and lifespan often make it the smarter long-term choice.

  • 25+ year manufacturer warranties available
  • No staining or sealing required
  • Resists fading, mold, and scratching
  • Wide range of colors and grain patterns

WHAT WESTCHESTER DECKING BUILDS

Whether you’re starting from a bare yard or modernizing the deck you already have, here’s the work we do.

01. Design & Build From the Ground Up

Brand-new decks designed around how you actually use your yard — entertaining, sun and shade, sightlines from the kitchen, room for a grill, table, or hot tub. We design, draw, permit, and build.

02. New Deck Installation

Working from your existing plans or an architect’s drawings? We’re happy to be the build crew. Permitting, footings, framing, decking, and finish — handled.

03. Wood-to-Composite Conversions

Love your deck’s footprint but tired of staining it every other summer? If the framing is sound, we strip the old pressure-treated boards and re-deck with composite — a fraction of the cost of a full rebuild.

04. Deck Upgrades & Modernization

Tune up an older deck for modern living: built-in benches and planters, hidden fasteners, under-deck drainage, low-voltage lighting, privacy screening, and pergolas.

05. New Railing Systems

Nothing dates a deck faster than old wood balusters. We install modern cable rail, black aluminum rail, glass panel rail, and composite rail systems — code-compliant and dramatically better-looking.

06. Updated Stairs & Landings

Sagging stairs, mismatched risers, missing handrails. We rebuild stairs to current code, add proper landings where you need them, and tie everything into the rest of the deck cleanly.

HOW WE WORK

No pressure, no surprises, no vague proposals. Here’s the process every Westchester Decking project follows.

Westchester, NY Deck Design & Construction

1. On-Site Consultation

We come out, walk your property, listen to how you want to use the space, and measure. Free, no obligation.

2. Design & Material Selection

You see drawings, material samples, and a written estimate that breaks out every line item — framing, decking, railing, stairs, finish work. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying for.

3. Permits & Approvals

Every Westchester town has its own building department. We pull the permits, submit the drawings, and handle inspections so you don’t have to.

4. Build

Footings, framing, decking, railings, stairs, finish details — done by our own crew, not subcontractors we just met. Most residential decks are completed within one to three weeks of active build time.

5. Walk-Through & Care Plan

We walk the finished deck with you, address anything that needs a final touch, and — if you’ve gone with pressure-treated wood — set you up on a maintenance schedule with the Westchester Wash and Seal team for cleaning and sealing down the road.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you build decks with pressure-treated wood or composite?

Both. We build full pressure-treated wood decks for homeowners who want a traditional look and a lower upfront price, and we build composite decks (Trex, TimberTech, AZEK, and similar) for homeowners who want very low maintenance and a longer functional lifespan. We talk through the trade-offs honestly so you can decide what fits your home and your budget.

Can you convert my existing wood deck to composite?

In many cases, yes. If the existing framing is sound, we can pull the old wood decking and install new composite boards on the existing structure. If the frame is rotted, sagging, or undersized for composite, we rebuild what needs rebuilding. We inspect first and give you a straight answer before any work starts. Already have an old deck that just needs a tune-up? See our deck repair page or deck staining service.

How long does a new deck take to build in Westchester?

Most residential decks take one to three weeks of active build time once permits are pulled and materials are on-site. Larger multi-level decks, decks with custom features (built-in seating, pergolas, lighting), or projects requiring engineering review can take longer. Permitting timelines vary by Westchester town and we handle that process for you.

Do I need a permit for a new deck in Westchester County?

Almost always, yes. Every Westchester town and village has its own building department, and new decks attached to a house typically require a permit, drawings, and an inspection. We pull permits as part of our design-build process so you do not have to navigate the building department alone.

Can you just replace my railings or stairs without rebuilding the whole deck?

Yes. Railings and stairs are two of the most common standalone upgrades we do. New cable rail, modern metal rail, or composite rail can transform the look of an aging deck. New stairs can fix a sagging or unsafe set without touching the rest of the structure.

What's the difference between Westchester Wash and Seal and Westchester Decking?

Same family of companies, different specialties. Westchester Wash and Seal handles cleaning, staining, sealing, and exterior care — including deck staining and sealing and general deck care. Westchester Decking handles new builds, conversions, and structural upgrades. One phone number reaches both teams.
